Connecting to Top Trendz Internet was about as uneventful as ordering a supersized meal at a drive thru. At around 6:30pm, just as the sun sank below the horizon and cast the industrial estate in a grey haze, Jason popped out of the warehouse. He followed Lanthus’ strict instructions to lock everything up with the chains and padlocks which clanged noisily against the corrugated iron doors, before he arrived at the little grey box a few minutes later. He parked Pike’s scooter against the curb, and hacked open the crude lock on the metal door of the housing. Using the video footage he had shot earlier, he identified the correct wires. Then he connected a small inconspicuous device to one of them, and concealed it behind the many other coloured wires. Unless there was another fault requiring the attention of the technician with the clipboard and the orange toolbox, Jason’s device would remain concealed and undiscovered for a very long time. And as long as he was within a five-kilometer radius of the transmitter, he would have free access to uncapped broadband Internet. Now that he had an anonymous gateway and unlimited bandwidth, he could begin work on cracking Ace Security’s systems.

He checked his watch. At 8:00am the following morning, he would begin his visits to the bank to draw cash in time for his midday deadline. Unable to return to his own dorm, for fear of another visit from Leroy, he would spend the night at the warehouse. After an uneventful trip to a drive thru, where he ordered a supersized meal, Jason spent the night stretched out as much as he could on the reclined front seat of a very badly hail-damaged Fiat Picanto, which had more holes in it than a basket full of tennis rackets.
